Follow My Journey

The Work Behind the Words

Writing  a novel isn't just about putting words on a page. It's about bringing the story to life, maybe even starting over, and discovering what the characters have to say. I share the journey behind my writing, including the choices, challenges, discoveries, and occasional disasters that happen along the way.

I'll take you behind the scenes of The Unmaking Of Tomorrow Trilogy as I transform a stand-alone novel into a larger dystopian world.

Book One: RUINATION

Book Two: DISINTEGRATION

Book Three: RECLAMATION

You'll find:

  • Behind-the-scenes looks at the writing and rewriting process
  • Thoughts on storytelling, characters, and worldbuilding
  • The decisions that shape a novel
  • What I've learned from readers and the revision process
  • Occasional glimpses into my life  as a writer and the challenges that interrupt my writing process

I'd love to have you along for the journey.

Ruination Book 1 of The Unmaking Trilogy

After publishing my first dystopian novel, I realized that the story had only just begun. Maya had more challenges to face and more landscape to navigate.

I couldn't simply continue Maya's story from where the first book ended. The dystopian elements needed to go deeper. The ending had to change so the story could take her to where I wanted her to go.

I'm going back and starting over.

RUINATION — Work in Progress, Book One of THE UNMAKING OF TOMORROW Trilogy, Coming in 2027

RUINATION is a near-future dystopia grounded in reality, set as society unravels. As the economy collapses, unemployment rises, crime spikes, and the institutions people rely on, including law enforcement, social services, and government benefits, vanish. People trade their freedom for safety, one compromise at a time. Those who fail to meet productivity standards are targeted for reform under the guise of rehabilitation. At the center is eighteen-year-old Maya Morales, an artist who draws not what she sees but the patterns she notices. As Workforce Reintegration counselors arrive and black SUVs marked New Thought Centers begin taking neighbors away after dark, Maya uses her art to reveal how invisible lines become cages. She confronts the cost of staying human when the rules no longer apply.

I'm documenting that process in my newsletter The Work Behind the Words on Substack. I'll share rewrites, insights,  feedback from beta and ARC readers, and eventually publication.

The Story Behind the Trilogy

I thought Maya's story was finished.

It wasn't!

Ruination, the first book in the new trilogy, is being rebuilt from the ground up. Some elements of the original story will remain. Others will change dramatically. The goal isn't simply to revise an existing novel. It's to write Maya's story as it was meant to be.

I'm documenting that process in my newsletter The Work Behind the Words on Substack. I'll share rewrites, insights,  feedback from beta and ARC readers, and eventually publication.
